2014 Summer Look
A pretty typical outfit for me this summer. Lots of sweat.
Here’s a portrait of Simon Cowell and some of the acts he’s made famous (Il Divo, Susan Boyle, and One Direction) for an article in the latest issue of Variety, which details the large influence he’s had in the entertainment industry.
If you’re looking for signed + numbered, limited edition prints, don’t forget that “Eclipse” is still available at The People’s Print Shop. Grab one before they’re gone!
To everyone who has ever bought my prints, thanks for the support!

Here’s my painting of Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Gallery 1988’s tribute to the TV shows and films of Joss Whedon. The show opens Friday, September 5th, from 7-10pm at Gallery 1988 West.
I love when a story introduces a darker version of the protagonist, and Faith is that foil to Buffy. Besides battling literal demons, Faith had inner demons to tackle, leading her to become a rogue Slayer and align with the Mayor (who makes a cameo in this painting in his “ascended” demon form) until she found redemption on the Buffy spinoff Angel. Anyway, I hope that inner struggle comes across in this portrait.
Thank you to everyone who has purchased an “Eclipse” print! Some prints still available at The People’s Print Shop.
Signed and numbered, limited edition of 40. Get ‘em before they’re gone!
Recently I had the pleasure of designing a poster for Phish for their two shows at Merriweather Post Pavilion this past weekend. The posters were screen printed by the wonderful people at Grow Your Own Media in Los Angeles. Thanks to the Phish team for the opportunity and to the crew at GYO Media for the awesome prints!

Here’s my piece for this year’s “Suggestivism” show, curated by Nathan Spoor and hosted this time by Copro Gallery in Santa Monica, CA. The show opens August 16th, from 8:30-11pm and runs till September 6th.
Since the show is subtitled “Chronology,” I wanted to play around with the idea of a time shift and decided to have a seemingly sun bleached daytime scene bordering a nighttime scene, with the moonflowers from the border in full bloom.
Hope you can make it to the show to see the piece in person along with the incredible work by the other artists! Check out that line-up!
"Eclipse" prints are now available! Get ‘em while they’re hot.
I know a previous announcement had the release scheduled for the 4th, but it’s been changed to this Thursday, the 17th! Sorry for any confusion. Look out for the “Eclipse” at 8am PST!
Hey, I’m Julian and here’s my first Style Journal entry!
On Saturday I went to a screening of “Rear Window” at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Whoa, a scarf? At this time of year…in L.A.??? Yeah, it gets chilly on that lawn.
Hey guys! Every once in a while I’ll be contributing to the Style Journal tumblr. Follow along and check out the other illustrators too!
A few months ago I had the pleasure of being asked to illustrate a piece of writing by Jonathan Safran Foer as part of Chipotle’s new Cultivating Thought Author Series, which pairs illustrations with thoughtful musings by various authors and comedians and presents them on Chipotle cups or bags.
Foer’s piece, “Two-Minute Personality Test” (here), is an assortment of questions meant to give some insight into one’s personality, so my illustration depicts a man unraveling his head and revealing various references to the questions. I had a lot of fun working on this piece, and I’m so excited to be part of the series!
You can read about the background of the Cultivating Thought Author Series here and keep an eye out for the cups at Chipotle!
NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHING! Here’s my fighter, a young witch named Zee, for Jenn Woodall’s upcoming FIGHT! Zine, where artist-created female fighting characters battle it out!
Zee is pretty much a combination of Beyoncé and St. Vincent and, like…a witch??? Basically don’t mess with her because she is cool and confident and has magic powers.
Check out the list of illustrators contributing other competitors here. This zine is gonna be awesome.
